Towcestrians Colts winners of the Oceanic Cup 2009.
Towcestrians Colts ended the 2008/9 season as one of the top teams in the East Midlands having defeated ON’s and Long Buckby on route to the final at Franklins Gardens to play Old Scouts, with Towcester winning 27 – 3.
The 2008/9 season started well with wins against Nottingham and Leighton Buzzard in the National Cup before a narrow defeat away at Lutterworth in the third round. The team then progressed into the last 16 of the National Plate with wins against Kenilworth and Rugby Lions before another narrow defeat away to the eventual winners Bedford Blues.
7 Colts players were regularly being asked to play first team rugby and with the inevitable disruption to the Colts squad it was difficult to gain any consistency and we suffered early defeats in the quarter final and semi final of the League Play Off and the Referee’s Cup competitions. Congratulations to the following Colts players who played first team rugby this season, Dave Devlin-Jones, Chrissie George, Aaron Goodman, Harry Hopewell, Tom Millican, Josh Turner and Matthew Yuill.
Aaron Goodman had a busy season also winning International honours representing England Colleges, playing in 3 internationals, and Charlie Moulten was selected for the East Midlands U20 squad.
Nathan Payne the 2008/9 Colts team captain was invited to New Zealand and is currently enjoying his six months playing in the southern hemisphere.
Our thanks to several U17’s who came and played a significant role in some of our matches during the season.
