Towcestrians RFC was established in 1933 and is one of the most successful Junior Rugby Clubs in Northamptonshire (www.towcestriansrfc.net), affiliated to the RFU, East Midlands Rugby Union and the Northants Rugby Alliance. Towcester is located 9 miles from Northampton (home of Northampton Saints RFC), 12 miles from the modern City of Milton Keynes, and located in the heart of England.
Towcestrians RFC 1st XV has just completed a very successful season, finishing 3rd place in the Midlands 3 East South League, reaching the 1/4 finals of the National EDF Senior Vase competition, and were runners up in the final of the Lewis Shield competition at Franklins Gardens. The 1st XV squad includes a number of players travelling to play with us from local Universities, such as Bedford, Birmingham, Nottingham and Oxford plus our ‘home grown’ players from the Colts (U 19’s) squad.
Our Colts (U 19’s) squad won the Oceanic Cup Final at Franklins Gardens and there are current under 17’s and Colts (U 19’s) players who have demonstrated that they are eligible to be selected for our 1st team squad in coming seasons.
We are seeking to register players (amateur contract only) wishing to secure local employment and enjoy playing rugby at one of the most successful junior rugby clubs in Northamptonshire. However, we know through past experience that when you move into a higher league you need a bigger squad of players to remain competitive and sustain growth. Most of our players are employed locally, which gives them the opportunity to train two/three evenings during the week and play at weekends – team selection relies not only on playing ability but also on commitment to training.
We currently have 4 senior sides, a Colts XV and around 300+ registered Mini & Juniors players who play at the club on Sunday mornings. Our coaching team, Frank Packman, former Northampton Saints, England Colts XV and England ‘A’s and Robbie George also played for Northampton Saints RFC. We have the services of a first class physiotherapist locally, plus our own fully equipped gymnasium. We have an active social part of the club and each year around 50 players and other members enjoy the ‘Easter Tour’ – it was France in 2008 and Belgium in 2009!.
One of the highlights of the year is the Towcestrians Summer Ball, which has been described as the biggest social event in South Northants and is regularly attended by around 600 members, guests and friends. It is a fantastic night of wining, dining, entertainment plus dancing to a live ‘Big’ Band and Disco.

Towcester is an old Market Town, set in a rural/farming community, only 4 miles from the world famous Silverstone Motor Racing Circuit and home to the well known Towcester Racecourse. Silverstone, is a major centre for F1 motor racing teams – Brawn GP, Red Bull and Williams is only 30 mins away at Oxford plus several companies already operating in a growing Business Science Park development within the environs of the Silverstone Circuit. One division of BAe Systems is based in Towcester and there are employment opportunities in Northampton, the modern City of Milton Keynes and Oxford for Professional, IT, Logistics, Sales, Administrative, Warehousing, Manual etc jobs providing any number of permanent or temporary employment contracts (some through club members who have their own companies).
Local/International Travel.
Northampton is 15 minutes, Central Milton Keynes is 20 minutes. Oxford is 35 minutes. Central London is only one hour and a half by motorway from Towcester, and one hour 40 minutes (max) by Inter City train from Milton Keynes. Heathrow Airport is around 50 minutes to one hour, Birmingham Airport and East Midlands Airports are approx one hour and Luton Airport is only 40 minutes away.
